Three Dutch soldiers were shot and hurt early Saturday morning in downtown Indianapolis, according to authorities. The shooting happened after what police think was a fight outside the hotel where the soldiers were staying.
At about 3:30 a.m. EDT, there was a shooting in Indianapolis' entertainment district. Police in Indianapolis said they found three men who had been shot and took them to hospitals in the area.
The Dutch Ministry of Defense said that one of the soldiers was in critical condition and that the other two were awake. On the other hand, police in Indianapolis said that two soldiers were in critical condition and one was in stable condition.
The ministry said the three soldiers were from the Commando Corps and were in Indiana for training. The shooting happened during their free time in front of the hotel where they were staying.
Police in Indianapolis said they think the shooting happened because of a fight between the three victims and another person or people.
The ministry said that the families of the people who were shot had been told, and that Indianapolis police were still looking into the shooting.
No Arrests Have Been Made
The Indiana National Guard said the soldiers were training at the 1,000-acre (405-hectare) Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, which is about 65 kilometers (40 miles) southeast of Indianapolis.
In a statement, the Guard said that the center is used to train people from the Department of Defense and "other allies."
"At the end of their day of duty, the Dutch soldiers went to Indianapolis. "During this hard time, our thoughts and prayers are with the soldiers and their families," the Guard told WXIN-TV.
